Safe sleep in pregnancy

In pregnancy, sleeping on your side is thought to maximise blood flow and oxygen to your growing baby.

According to Still Aware, Australia’s first Stillbirth Awareness Charity, sleeping on your side from about 28 weeks has the potential to reduce late-term stillbirth.

-Either side is fine

-If you wake up on your back, don’t worry, just roll over onto your side again

-Falling asleep on your side means you stay on your side for the deepest and longest part of your sleep

-If you aren’t used to sleeping on your side start a little earlier so you can be in the habit of sleeping on your side by 28 weeks

-Pregnancy pillows can be a great support to help you sleep comfortably on your side
