Perinatal anxiety and depression supports

Perinatal anxiety and depression affects up to 1 in 5 women, and up to 1 in 10 men in the perinatal period (during pregnancy and/or following birth).

Some families, including LGBTQIA+ parented families, culturally and linguistically diverse families and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families face additional risks, and barriers to accessing safe, appropriate services.

Research has shown that parents getting the right help from a professional early on have the best chances of recovering from perinatal depression and anxiety. However, accessing help can feel daunting and difficult. Sometimes asking a family or friend to make the call for you can be helpful, or reading more online to better understand the best support for you.

🤍Visit your GP and ask them about a Mental Health Treatment Plan. On the plan, you are entitled to Medicare rebates for up to 20 individual psychological appointments that year.

🤍If access is an issue Gidget foundation offer 10 Telehealth psychological counselling sessions free of charge (with a treatment plan)
